LEIPZIG, Germany — Well, this game hardly lived up to its hype, at least for American soccer fans.
Translated: the anticipated match-up between U.S. internationals Tyler Adams and Christian Pulisic never materialized during RB Leipzig’s 1-0 loss to Bundesliga leader Borussia Dortmund Saturday.
Adams, who transferred from the Red Bulls last year, sat on the hosts’ bench, but never made it into the match for his RB Leipzig debut. Pulisic, on the other hand, came on in the final 12 minutes and did not make in impact.
This probably will be the only time these two players could play against each other in Germany because the 20-year-old Pulisic will join Chelsea (England) on a transfer after this season.
As it turned out, Borussia Dortmund regained its six-point lead on top of the Bundesliga as Axel Witsel’s goal secured the win.
Witsel tallied 19 minutes into Dortmund’s first game after the winter break, driving in at the far post.
It was Dortmund’s eighth win in its last nine matches.
