NEW YORK – The Cosmos announced Wednesday that forward-midfielder Darwin Espinal has re-signed with the club.

Espinal scored seven goals with Cosmos B during the 2018 National Premier Soccer League season, helping the team to the North Atlantic Conference title.

He was also named NPSL player of the week after scoring twice in a 4-0 victory over Boston City FC last April.

“I’m very excited to be back and looking forward to building on last season, individually and as a team,” Espinal said.

Before his arrival in New York last season, Espinal scored twice in 13 appearances for Reno 1868 FC in the USL. The 23-year-old Espinal made his professional debut in 2015 with the Tampa Bay Rowdies. In two seasons with the Rowdies, he scored four times in 25 matches.

Espinal has also represented Honduras at youth level, playing in the 2015 Concacaf Men’s Olympic Qualifying Championship.

“Darwin is a creative player that can also provide goals for us,” senior vice president Joe Barone said. “He had a successful NPSL season last year and we’re excited to have him back this season.”

The Cosmos will compete in the NPSL from May through July and then in the NPSL Founders Cup from August through November.
