There will only be two Hudson River Derby matches during the 2019 Major League Soccer season as the Major League Soccer schedule was announced Monday.

The Red Bulls will host New York City FC at Red Bull Arena July 14 before the teams turnaround and play at Yankee Stadium Aug. 24.

Due to the addition of FC Cincinnati as an expansion franchise, the league’s 24th team, all teams will play each team in their 12-team conference twice and teams in the other conference once. That will give each team 34 games.

During City’s first four years of existence, the two rivals played each other three times during the regular season. They also met in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup in 2017 and 2018.

Of course, the clubs could very well meet again in the Open Cup and there is always the possibility of playing in the playoffs.
