The Rochester Lancers have added former Democrat and Chronicle sportswriter Jeff DiVeronica as their director of communications, the soccer team announced Sunday night.

DiVeronica will write, produce videos and assist with social media for the Lancers, as well as help with game-day operations.

A two-time Rochester Press-Radio Club’s sportswriter of the year, DiVeronica is in St. John Fisher College’s Communication/Journalism Hall of Fame and was a 2014 inductee to the Frontier Field Walk of Fame.

He is a former co-host of “Kick This! The Soccer Sam Show,” with indoor Lancers founder Soccer Sam Fantauzzo. DiVeronica also has hosted the Connors and Ferris High School Sports Show on Fox Sports 1280 and iHeartRadio for 16 years.

DiVeronica and his wife Chrissy and daughter, Francesca, reside in Webster, N.Y.

The Lancers return to the great indoors with their Major Arena Soccer League 2 opener against the Detroit Waza Flo at the Dome Arena in Henrietta, N.Y. Friday at 7 p.m. Rochester welcomes the Cincinnati Swerve at the same venue Saturday at 7 p.m.
