The Red Bulls might want to start planning not to have two key players — Haiti’s Derrick Etienne, Jr. and Jamaica’s Kemar Lawrence — for parts of June and July next year.
That’s because both countries remained undefeated in Concacaf Nations League competition and moved closer to qualifying for the Concacaf Gold Cup.
Etienne scored off a rare header for the insurance goal in the 31st minute of the Haitian’s 2-0 win over Nicaragua (2-1-0, 6) at Estadio Nacional de Futbol in Managua, Nicaragua Saturday night. Miki Cantave had given the visitors the lead in the 12th minute. Haiti (9) remained unbeaten at 3-0-0.
Lawrence, a Major League Soccer Best XI selection, did not score but helped the Reggae Boyz (3-0-0, 9) record a 2-1 victory over Suriname (1-1-1, 4) at the Montego Bay Sports Complex in Montego Bay, Jamaica.
Cory Burke headed home a shot in the seventh minute and Darren Mattock converted a penalty kick in the 16th minute had given the Jamaicans a two-goal advantage before Donnegy Fer pulled one back for the visitors in the 36th minute.
