New York University men’s head coach Kim Wyant has accomplished much on and off the soccer field. Here are some highlights of her accomplishments:

* Was the first goalkeeper of the U.S. women’s national team. She made her debut in the USA’s first game, a 1-0 loss to Italy in an international friendly on Aug. 18, 1985. The early lineups included Emily Pickering Harner, who grew up in Massapequa, N.Y. and Michelle Akers, a cornerstone of two Women’s World Cup championship teams. Made 16 international appearances, recording the first win and shutout in U.S. women’s history.

* An All-America during her senior season at the University of Central Florida, she started in the an NCAA Division I championship game, earning MVP honors.

* While “only” 5-5, she quickness, tactical awareness, positioning and vision to develop into one of the best women’s goalkeepers this country has ever seen.

* Won two W-League crowns with the Long Island Lady Riders (1995 and 1997), commuting from Florida to Long Island in the first title run, winning playoff MVP honors in the second. She was selected as the W-League goalkeeper of the year four times. She also coached the Lady Riders in 2002 and was the team general manager for several years as the team twice won W-League organization of the year during her tenure.

* Backstopped the Lady Riders to a stunning 2-0 triumph over the Brazilian women’s national team, making several fabulous saves in an international friendly at Mitchel Athletic Complex in Uniondale, only weeks prior to the 1999 Women’s World Cup. Brazil finished third in the competition, losing to the eventual-champion USA in the semifinals, 2-0.

* Served as head coach of the New York Athletic Club women’s team, which won the U.S. Amateur Soccer Association National Open Cup in 2014 and is the director of coaching of the Brentwood Soccer Club.

* Served as head coach at Florida Atlantic University (1994-97) and Dowling College (2003-04) and as an assistant coach at Stony Brook (2000) and Dowling (2005).

* Among her many honors: special recognition award from the National Soccer Hall of Fame in 2008 for her contributions to the U.S. national team and a member of the USL Hall of Fame, University of Central Florida Hall of Fame and the Long Island Soccer Players Hall of Fame.
