HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Sophomores Storm Strongin combined sophomore Matthew Vowinkel for the lone goal to lift the Hofstra University men to a 1-0 victory over Northeastern University in the Colonial Athletic Association quarterfinals at Hofstra Soccer Stadium Saturday night.

Hofstra (9-6-4) advanced to the semifinals Friday at 4 p.m., when it will face North Carolina-Wilmington in Harrisonburg, Va.

It was all Hofstra in the first half as the Pride outshot the Huskies, 8-0, but the Pride couldn’t to find the back of the net.

The hosts broke through in the 52nd minute as Vowinkel scored his team-leading seventh goal of the season on a header.

Northeastern mounted some great pressure late in the match, but senior goalkeeper Alex Ashton made a big save with just under two minutes remaining. Hofstra’s backline prevented a serious scoring opportunity nine seconds later to preserve the victory.

Ashton made four saves for Hofstra’s 11th of the year.

Northeastern keeper Chandler Cree made five saves.
