PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The St. John’s University men saw their season come to an end on Saturday night, falling to Providence College, 1-0, at Anderson Stadium in the quarterfinals of the Big East Tournament.
The Red Storm (7-8-3) controlled possession in the early going before Providence (10-6-2) broke through on a controversial goal in the 14th minute.
On a play that featured multiple short passes in front, the goal was initially waived off by an offside call from the assistant referee. The center referee then overturned that offside call, making the goal good and putting Providence ahead 1-0.
St. John’s senior goalkeeper Lenny Wilson stopped two of the three shots. Providence’s Colin Miller needed just one save to record his ninth shutout.
