BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The Baruch College men scored twice in the second half to defeat Lehman, 2-0, in the City University of New York Athletic Conference Championship semifinals at the Brooklyn College Athletic Complex Tuesday night.
Alexey Arefev broke the scoreless tie in the 70th minute by converting a penalty kick. Shaiem Allah Morad added an insurance goal on a through-ball assist by Natari Mohammed in the 79th minute to help clinch a spot in Saturday’s Championship against Staten Island. The game will be played at Brooklyn College at 4:30 p.m.
Goalkeeper Kellen Sela had two saves for the shutout against Lehman (6-10-2).
The Bearcats outshot last year’s champions, 14-10.
“It was a tough match out there and the players just keeping pushing and pushing for the goal,” head coach Dima Kamenshchik said. “We finally broke through late and worked hard to get that second goal a short time later to clinch the win. Tonight, we enjoy the win but tomorrow we go back to the drawing board and get ready for Saturday.”
