VILLANOVA, Pa. – For the second time in as many games, the St. John’s University men earned one point in the Big East standings, playing Villanova University to a 1-1 draw at Higgins Soccer Complex Wednesday afternoon.
Tani Oluwaseyi opened up the scoring in the 51st minute, outrunning his defender down the right side before finishing to the bottom left corner of the cage. The goal marked the fourth of the season for the freshman, moving him within one of teammate Skage Simonsen for the league lead among rookies.
Yusuf Cueceoglu answered less than four minutes later for Villanova (6-7-2, 1-5-1) tying the game at 1-1.
Goalkeeper Lenny Wilson stopped a season-high eight shots for St. John’s (6-6-3, 2-2-3).
The Red Storm struck first for the third time in its last four games, but again was unable to come away with the win.
The Wildcats outshot the Johnnies, 21-15, and earned nine corners to the Red Storm’s three.
The Johnnies will complete their final road trip of the regular season, traveling to Georgetown University for a 1 p.m. showdown on Saturday.
