POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.– In a matchup of the top two Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference teams, the Monmouth University women prevailed over Marist College, 1-0, at Tenney Stadium Wednesday night.
The Hawks controlled the action for a majority of the match and took advantage of a set piece early in the first half. Junior Jessica Johnson’s 14th minute free kick from the left sideline beat goalkeeper Abigail Renaud to the far upper corner.
Monmouth keeper Amanda Knaub was credited with three save as first-place Monmouth (11-3-1, 6-1-0) secured its sixth consecutive victory. Marist fell to 6-6-1, 4-2-0. Knaub, who has eight clean sheets this season, recorded her 28th career shutout.
“It was great to get another shutout, especially on the road,” Monmouth head coach Krissy Turner said. “It was a solid team effort tonight.”
Turner coached her 400th match at Monmouth. Her record with the Hawks is 243-121-36.
The Hawks play their final regular season road game when they take on Fairfield University Saturday at 7 p.m.
