OMAHA, Neb. – The St. John’s University women scored twice in the second half and went on to earn their first Big East win of the season with a 2-1 victory over Creighton at Morrison Stadium Thursday night.
The Johnnies (5-6-0, 1-1-0) have now beaten Creighton (4-6-0, 1-1-0) in three of the teams’ last four matches.

Six minutes into the second half, Lucy Whipp lofted a cross to the inside of the six-yard box for Samie Scaffidi. The 5-4 Silver Spring, Md. native settled the ball before sending a right-footed strike to the center of the net past goalkeeper Katie Sullivan and putting the Johnnies ahead, 1-0.
The Red Storm extended its lead to 2-0 in the 72nd minute when freshman Kayla Mesaros powered a ball high in the air off a Blue Jay defender, which resulted in a Creighton own goal.
With seconds remaining in the match, the Bluejays got on the board behind Ansley Atkinson.
