WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – A 56th-minute goal sent Manhattan College past the Monmouth University men in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opener Wednesday night, 1-0.

The Jaspers’ Noah Amissah gathered a loose ball and curved a shot inside the right post from 20 yards for the game-winner.

The Hawks dropped to 2-5-1, 0-1-0, while Manhattan improved to 8-1-0, 1-0-0.

A Monmouth game was decided by one or less goals for the seventh consecutive match.

“It was a typical MAAC conference game. They’re a talented team. We can learn from this and keep moving on,” Monmouth head coach Robert McCourt said.

Monmouth will travel to Siena College Saturday at 1 p.m.
