QUEENS, N.Y. – Caitlin Farrell scored twice — a goal in each half — to lead No. 10 Georgetown University to a 3-0 Big East win over St. John’s University at Belson Stadium Sunday afternoon.
The Johnnies (4-6-0, 0-1-0) played even with Georgetown for most of the first half before Farrell broke a scoreless deadlock in the 39th minute. Six minutes later, the Hoyas added another tally off a penalty kick from Carson Nizialek.
Senior Christina Bellero (Mellville, N.Y.) had a golden opportunity in the 16th minute as she powered a strike to the right corner of the cage but goalkeeper Arielle Schechtman turned away the point-blank try.
Bellero recorded another attempt with a shot to the bottom left corner of the net in the 60th minute, but Arielle saved it.
Georgetown (8-0-2, 1-0-0) put the game out of reach with 10 minutes left in the game as Farrell found the back of the net for the second time.
St. John’s travels to Omaha, Neb. to play conference foe Creighton University Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET.
