BUFFALO — Real Caribe head coach Huntley Swaby was named the U.S. Adult Soccer Association Region I coach of the year at the organization’s annual meeting Friday.

Swaby directed Real Caribe to the Ryder-Vass title, the Under-23 championship of the Long Island Soccer Football League this past summer.

He also guided Real to the Region I tournmament title.

Real capped a memorable summer season by winning the Ryder-Vass championship, recording a 2-1 victory over Doxa S.C. in the final at Mitchel Athletic Complex. The team overcame a 1-0 deficit behind goals by Franco Cali and Joe Thomann, the game-winner in the 63rd minute, to secure its seventh Ryder-Vass title since 2001 and first since 2013. Real Caribe, which won the 2012 USASA national championship and finished as 2013 runners-up, qualified for next year’s Region I tournament.
