BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Freshman midfielder Karla Ruiz notched a hat-trick to lead the Lehman College women to an 8-0 victory over Medgar Evers College in first City University of New York Athletic Conference match-up for both sides this season at Kingsborough Field Wednesday.

Freshman midfielder Marissa Soriano opened Lehman’s (3-1-1, 1-0-0) scoring spree in the second minute. Ruiz had three consecutive tallies in a span of eight minutes (11th, 17th, 18th) to increase the Lightning’s advantage to 4-0 just before halftime.

Lehman’s attack, which had 27 shots, continued in the second half with freshman defender Micaela Canapa getting on the scoresheet in the 49th minute. Senior midfielder Daisy Gomez added a three minutes later, while sophomore midfielder Melanie Siranaula made it 7-0 in the 53rd minute.

Freshman midfielder Monica Vicente scored the Lightning’s eighth tally, via penalty kick, with six minutes remaining.

Lehman returns to South Field for another CUNYAC encounter Saturday at 11 a.m.against York College at 11 a.m.
