New York City FC made three player moves Monday.
The Major League Soccer club loaned Jonathan Lewis to Louisville City FC until the end of the United Soccer League regular season.
The team also activated midfielder Yangel Herrera from the disabled list. He will be eligible to play should he make his return from injury. The inclusion of a healthy and fit Herrera for the playoffs certainly would solidify City’s midfield.
Defender Cedric Hountondji was added to the disabled list and will be ineligible the remainder of the season.
NYCFC retains the right to recall the 21-year-old winger at any stage before Louisville’s final league game Oct. 13. Lewis will return to New York once the USL regular season is finished and will be eligible for the remainder of the MLS regular season and playoffs.
Lewis will have the opportunity to feature in six matches for Louisville City, beginning Wednesday against Penn FC.
Lewis, who joined the club as third overall pick in the first round of the 2017 MLS SuperDraft, has made 26 appearances for NYCFC in two seasons, recording three goals and four assists.
Louisville, coached by former U.S. Under-17 national team head coach John Hackworth, arein third position in the Eastern Conference. Midfielder James Sands recently completed a loan with the USL side.
