THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – The Lehman College women posted their first victory of the season by defeating Maritime College, 3-1, at Reinhart Field on Thursday evening.

The Lightning improved to 1-0-1 while the Privateers fell to 0-1.

Lehman, which outshot Maritime 17-4 (10-3 on goal), took a 1-0 lead four minutes before halftime with a goal from sophomore forward Emily Herrera.

Senior midfielder Daisy Gomez doubled the Lightning’s lead with a tally in the 69th minute-mark, before freshman defender Micaela Canapa notched her first collegiate goal five minutes later for a 3-0 advantage.

The Privateers, a Skyline Conference team that has not won in their last nine matches going back to 2017, avoided the shutout with a tally from junior defender Kayla Jelly in 87th minute.

The victory was also the first for Lehman at Reinhart Field since 2015 as it extended its unbeaten streak against Maritime to five games.

The Lightning return to South Field next Tuesday at 6 p.m.to hosts another Skyline Conference opponent, Sarah Lawrence.
