Jean-Christophe Koffi is heading to the Red Bulls, according to a report.

The former University of Virginia midfielder has been traded from D.C. United to the Red Bulls, MetroNY’s Kristian Dyer reported Wednesday afternoon.

The trade is expected to be finalized this week for the D.C. United product, sources told Dyer. He will sign a deal with Red Bull II, New York’s United Soccer League affiliate.

Koffi scored three goals and assisted on four others as a junior for the Cavaliers last season. He has left the program.

Belgian and Danish clubs had interest in the player, Metro reported.

United did not sign Koffi because the MLS team felt it had a logjam of central midfielders on its roster, sources told Dyer.

Koffi was a teammate of Red Bulls midfielder Derrick Etienne Jr., a Haitian international.
