SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Madie Gibson’s header in the 19th minute proved to be the difference in the Monmouth University women’s 1-0 victory over Seton Hall University at Owen T. Carroll Field Monday night.
The Hawks (4-2-0) set up Gibson’s game winner with a nice bit of passing, starting with freshman midfielder Jill Conklin. The rookie sent a pass toward the endline for senior Alli DeLuca, who sent a one-timed right footed cross into the center of the penalty area. Gibson rose above her defender and headed the service inside the far post.
Goalkeeper Amanda Knaub posted her third shutout of the season and was credited with one save, a stop she made early in the first half. She earned her third clean sheet of the season and the 23rd of her career.
“Tonight was a great bounce back performance for us. It was a terrific team goal and a solid win away from homee,” head coach Krissy Turner said.
Seton Hall fell to 2-3-1.
The Hawks visit Rutgers University Friday at 7 p.m.
