CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Hofstra University women’s fell to No. 6 University of Virginia, 5-1, at Klockner Stadium Sunday afternoon.

The Pride dropped to 3-2 while the Cavaliers remained unbeaten at 5-0.

The hosts Virginia got goals from Alissa Gorzak (Naperville, Ill.), Rebecca Jarrett (Washington Township, N.J.), Lorato Sargeant (Great Falls, Va.), Alexa Spaanstra (Brighton, Mich.) and Taryn Torres (Frisco, Texas) on the way to the win.

Virginia got on the board in 18th minute, making good on a penalty kick, before doubling its lead in the 30th minute. The Cavaliers added another before the end of the first half, taking a 3-0 advantage into the break.

Virginia added a fourth in the 50th minute. Hofstra spoiled the Cavaliers’ shutout with freshman Megan Fisher netting her first career goal in the 64th minute. Senior defender Monique Iannella hustled upfield to keep the play alive and fed into the box for sophomore Sabrina Bryan. Bryan poked it across to Fisher, who settled and buried her shot off the bottom of the crossbar.

Virginia then tacked on one more in the 75th minute.

Hofstra redshirt-senior goalkeeper Ashley Wilson’s eight saves were a career high. She played the entire game in net for the first time since Aug. 25, 2017.

The Pride visits Fairleigh Dickinson Thursday at 7 p.m.
