WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The Monmouth University women came out on the short end of a 1-0 score to Lehigh University at Hesse Field on The Great Lawn Friday night.

Following a scoreless 45 minutes, the chances intensified in the second half as Monmouth (3-2-0) generated a terrific scoring chance seven minutes into the period. Senior Jazlyn Moya struck a bouncing volley that tested Lehigh keeper Sam Miller, who dove to her right and made the save.

Lehigh (2-2) broke through in the 72nd minute when Kayla Arestivo finished a run down the center of the pitch with a right-footed shot into the lower corner past goalkeeper Amanda Knaub. Monmouth nearly found the tying goal in the closing minutes on a Jesi Rossman blast, but Miller made another vital save and pushed the shot away for a corner kick.

“Unfortunately when our team gets outworked it is difficult for us to get a win, and that was the case tonight,” Monmouth head coach Krissy Turner said. “We will learn from it and be better the next time out.”

The Hawks travel to South Orange, N.J. to meet Seton Hall University Monday at 6:30 p.m. The match will be broadcast live online by the Pirate Sports Network.
