HAMILTON, N.Y. – The Hofstra University men fell to No. 21 Colgate University, 2-0, at Beyer-Smith ’76 Field Thursday night.
The loss dropped the Pride to 0-2-1 while the Raiders stayed unbeaten at 3-0.
Hofstra held Colgate off the board for nearly the entire first half, but Edward Bass put in a low shot from within the six-yard box with 58 seconds left in the frame to give the Raiders the lead. The Pride tried to answer with a strike from sophomore Storm Strongin in the waning seconds, but it sailed high.
Hofstra raised its pressure in the second half, with juniors Luke Brown and Peter Meyer both testing goalkeeper Jacob Harris with shots on goal. But the Raiders sealed the win with from Oliver Harris, who broke free from the Pride defense on a pass from Lucas Lezcano in the 76th minute.
Transfers Felix Smith Halle and Etienne Botty made their first Hofstra appearances.
Colgate has taken a 4-3 lead in the all-time series with the Pride.
Hofstra visits Syracuse University Sunday at 6 p.m.
