There are only three games remaining for Sky Blue FC avoid making National Women’s Soccer League history in the very worst way.
On Saturday night, the New Jersey side suffered a 6-1 loss at the Houston Dash, a result that tied the league record for most losses in a season.
Sky Blue FC sits in ninth and last place in the NWSL with a 0-16-5 mark and only five points.
Essentially, the team needs to run the table and accrue nine points in its final three games to avoid several dubious distinctions. Given the team’s abysmal results, that must be considered a long shot at the present time.
As for avoiding ignominious records, the 2016 Boston Breakers (3-15-2, 11 points) finished with the poorest record in the six-year history of the league. That version of the Breakers tied the 2013 Washington Spirit for the least wins in a season with three apiece.
