NEWARK, Del. – After surrendering the first goal, the Monmouth University women struck for three successive scores to record a 3-1 victory over the University of Delaware at Stuart & Suzanne Grant Stadium Sunday afternoon.
The Hawks (3-1-0) faced an early deficit as the Blue Hens (0-3-1) struck in the fourth minute on a goal by Dani Kabat. Monmouth found the equalizer a little more than 15 minutes later when Alli DeLuca finished an opportunity inside the Blue Hens penalty area for her second goal in as many games.
Monmouth goalkeeper Amanda Knaub made a critical save off a corner kick to keep the game tied less than 20 minutes into the second half. Seven minutes later, Monmouth took the lead for good as Jill Conklin sprinted 70 yards and finished inside the far post for her first career goal. The Hawks added to their lead in the 80th minute with a tic-tac-toe passing exhibition that was finished by Lexie Palladino.
“This was a solid win on the road after a competitive week,” Monmouth head coach Krissy Turner said. “We didn’t play our best, but we fought back from being a goal down, which was great to see.”
The Hawks lead the all-time series 7-1-0.
