DENVER, Colo. – Led by Andre Sinyashinki’s three first-half goals, the University of Denver defeated the Monmouth University men in both teams’ season opener Friday night, 4-0.

Redshirt freshman Sean Murray made eight saves in his collegiate debut for the Hawks, including multiple from close range.

Denver opened the scoring in the 17th minute on a give-and-go, as Sinyashinki placed it in the bottom left corner.

The Pioneers made it 2-0 just over four minutes later, as Sinyashinki one-touched a cross into the left corner.

In the 26th minute, Sinyashinki curled in another goal from the top of the box to make it 3-0.

Denver put the game out of reach in the 66th minute, as Stefan DeLeone finished a through ball to the near post to make it 4-0.

Monmouth’s best chance came in the 37th minute, when freshman Ebenezer Owusu dribbled past several defenders to the Pioneers’ endline and crossed it to senior Zach Pereira, whose header went just high.

“Denver showed us some real quality tonight,” Monmouth head coach Robert McCourt said. “They showed us why they were a Final Four team two years ago. Our group is remaining very positive, though, and this is definitely an experience that we can build on.”
