WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Alli DeLuca’s goal in the 26th minute lifted the Monmouth University women past Bucknell University, 1-0, at Hesse Field on The Great Lawn Friday night.

The Hawks (2-1-0) dictated the action in the opening 45 minutes and took the lead when DeLuca pounced on a loose ball inside the six-yard box. A pass from Jessica Johnson led to a volley by Madie Gibson that ricocheted off the post where DeLuca capitalized on the opportunity.

Monmouth outshot the Bison (1-2) 11-3 in the period and 18-12 for the game and earned its second clean sheet.

“Any game in which we can earn a shutout is a positive, especially with the youth of our backline,” Monmouth head coach Krissy Turner said. “It is a good result for us after the disappointment of Monday’s game.”

The Hawks they travel to Newark, Del. to face the University of Delaware Sunday at 1 p.m.
