SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Kate Hostage converted a penalty kick in the 27th minute to lift Syracuse University to a 1-0 victory over St. John’s University at SU Soccer Stadium Thursday night.

The Orange took the first chance of the match in the seventh minute, powering a shot that goalkeeper Meredith Reinhardt saved.

After scoring two goals in the Johnnies’ Monday night home-opening win over the University of Buffalo, Lucy Whipp delivered the first shot of the match for the Red Storm in the 13th minute, but the ball went wide.

One of the Red Storm’s best opportunities came four minutes later as Sammie Scaffidi’s shot hit the left post.

St. John’s will return to action against Sacred Heart University at Belson Stadium Monday at 7 p.m.
