COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Hofstra University men will open their season this weekend at the Bert and Iris Wolstein Classic hosted by Ohio State. The Pride will take on Dayton University at 4 p.m. Friday before squaring off with the host Buckeyes at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
The Pride finished last season 6-6-6, winning five of the final seven games of the season. Hofstra finished fourth in the Colonial Athletic Association with a 3-1-4 conference record, marking the second straight season with just a single CAA loss. The Pride was predicted to once again finish fourth according to the conference preseason poll.
Hofstra returns two of its top three scorers in junior Oscar Ramsay (four goals) and All-CAA second-team selection Luke Brown (three goals, three assists). Senior Alex Ashton will be back in net after posting five shutouts and a 1.22 goals-against average a season ago.
The Flyers were picked fifth in the Atlantic 10 preseason poll after finishing the 2017 season at 9-8-2. Dayton has lost four of its six leading scorers from a season ago, but returns preseason all-conference selection and reigning A-10 Midfielder of the Year Rok Taneski, who led the team with 10 goals and seven assists.
The Buckeyes were picked sixth in the Big Ten preseason poll after finishing 2017 at 8-10-1. Brady Blackwell, Parker Siegfried and Will Hirschman were named preeason all-conference selections.

Hofstra stays on the road next week, heading to No. 25 Colgate for a 5 p.m. Thursday matchup.
