Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association has awarded a Jack Bauman Scholarship to Taylor James.

The scholarship is based on success in high school as well as community service.

James spent her entire youth soccer career with the Beekman Soccer Club in the East Hudson Youth Soccer League, starting with intramurals, then playing for the Beekman Malilie from Under-8 to U-10 and the Beekman Pumas from U-10 to U-19.

In her essay, James wrote, ”Soccer has shaped me into the person I am today as it led me to develop lifelong friendships and has also helped me build my character. I can’t imagine what my life would be like without soccer. It has also taught me about leadership and teamwork. Every skill I have learned throughout my time playing will help me as I continue my education at Binghamton and begin to take the next steps in my life.”

James will attend Binghamton University.

The scholarship’s namesake, is considered the father of women’s soccer on Long Island. He was devoted to the Massapequa Soccer Club, Eastern New York and making sure that girls had as many opportunities to play soccer as boys did in an era when girls playing sports was not as accepted as it is today.
