ORLANDO – Once again Sky Blue FC will try to win its first game of the season and avoid a winless season.
The New Jersey side enters the National Women’s Soccer League match Sunday at 7:30 p.m. against Orlando Pride (8-6-5, 29 points) at Orlando City Stadium with a 0-13-3 mark and three points.
It will be the second meeting of the season between these two clubs, with the first encounter here in June. Sky Blue FC fell behind 1-0 in the third minute before Imani Dorsey picked off a defender in the midfield and attacked the goal in the 16th minute. While Dorsey’s shot was saved by goalkeeper Ashlyn Harris, Savannah McCaskill buried the rebound and level the game at 1-1.
Orlando regained the lead in the 31st minute, but Sky Blue FC equalized when Madison Tiernan put away a rebounded shot by Katie Johnson six minutes later. The Pride eventually claimed a 3-2 result when Rachel Hill scored an Alex Morgan feed in the 83rd minute.
Sky Blue FC looks to snap a four-game skid in Orlando, most recently falling to Portland Thorns FC two weeks ago at Yurcak Field. In that 2-1 result, Sky Blue FC held an 18-8 edge in shots and saw two potential equalizers hit the woodwork in the second half. Dorsey scored the lone Sky Blue FC goal in the 27th minute, putting away a McCaskill assist.
The Pride is on a two-game unbeaten streak following a 2-1 win over Utah Royals FC and a 1-1 tie with Seattle Reign FC.
The Pride leads the all-time series, 3-2-1, also holding a 2-1-0 advantage over Sky Blue FC at Orlando City Stadium.
