WASHINGTON, D.C. — As one Red Bulls player moved into 10th-place tie on the MLS career list, lost in the fanfare of Bradley Wright-Phillips’s 100th league goal was Luis Robles’ accomplishment.

The veteran goalkeeper kept a clean sheet in the 1-0 win over D.C. United at Audi Field Wednesday night to register his 56th career shutout. That moved him into a tie with Donovan Ricketts for 10th on the all-time Major League Soccer List.

Robles, who has seven shutouts this season, has secured consecutive clean sheets.

The Red Bulls and their back four withstood a late surge by the hosts.

“It just shows our defensive quality as a unit,” center back Aaron Long said. “All 11 guys put in the work it’s huge, getting the shutout, is even bigger. The [defensive] work the whole unit put in tonight is big time.”

The visitors were ready for United to push forward over the final 45 minutes.

“At halftime we talked about them throwing a lot of numbers, naturally, 4-1-4-1,” head coach Chris Armas said. “They got a lot of numbers up the field and we had to make some adjustments but for the most part we were able to deal with it. Inevitably, they sneak through a few times, a couple of giveaways on our end, a couple of plays they put together and a couple of random balls in behind. But our guys stuck with it.”
