Metuchen, N.J.– United Women’s Soccer Wednesday announced the match details for its National Championship July 21-22.
The teams that qualified for the National Championship are the Houston Aces (Southwest Conference champions), Calgary Foothills Women’s FC (West Conference champions), Grand Rapids FC Women (Midwest Conference playoff champions) and the Inferno Rush (East Conference championship game winner), which defeated the expansion Connecticut Fusion, 2-0, to secure their spot Tuesday night.
Long-time soccer TV announcers JP Dellacamera and Shep Messing are managing directors of the Fusion.
The draw to determine Saturday’s semifinal matchups was held on Wednesday morning at the league office. In the first semifinal, it will be a matchup of old West Conference foes as Calgary Foothills Women’s FC will take on the Houston Aces. The second semifinal will feature Grand Rapids FC Women squaring off against the newly crowned East Conference champions, the Inferno Rush.
The league also announced that the location of the 2018 UWS National Championship has been moved to Grandville, Mich. and all matches will be held at Grandville High School, the site of the 2017 UWS National Championship.
“We are looking forward to working with Grand Rapids FC once again in hosting our league championship,” UWS commissioner Joseph Ferrara, Jr. said. “The 2017 event brought some of the best soccer atmospheres I’ve ever seen since I’ve been involved in the sport and I believe that the 2018 event in Grand Rapids will be a similar success.”
