Los Angeles Football Club forward Adama Diomande was voted the MLS Player of the Month presented by EA SPORTS by members of the media for June.
The Norway international tallied seven goals in his first five Major League Soccer matches, the most of any player in league history after five games. On the season, Diomande has seven goals and two assists, with all seven goals scored during four matches in June. LAFC owns a four-game unbeaten streak and sits third in the Western Conference with 31 points (9-4-4 overall).
Diomande scored his first career MLS goal in a 2-1 loss at FC Dallas June 2 (Watch Goal), but helped LAFC rebound with a brace in a 4-3 road victory over San Jose on June 9. The 28-year-old scored in the 15th minute (Watch Goal), followed it up with an 89th-minute equalizer to bring the match to 3-3 (Watch Goal). Two weeks later, the forward earned a goal in the 8th minute in LAFC’s 2-0 home victory over Columbus Crew SC June 23 ( Watch Goal).
In the last game of June, Diomande scored the first hat-trick in LAFC history in a 4-1 victory over the Philadelphia Union at Banc of California Stadium. He opened the scoring in the 25th minute, displaying impressive ball skills to get past a Union defender and finish with a low shot into the far left corner of goal (Watch Goal). He doubled the lead to 2-0 in the 43rd minute with a quick tap-in in front of goal (Watch Goal). To complete his hat trick, Diomande brought the score to 3-1 in the 55th minute, slamming home a loose ball in the box (Watch Goal).
