On one hand, it was a successful weekend for the Rochester Lancers.

The National Premier Soccer League club won both of its games.

On the other hand, it was a disappointing one for Rochester.

The team was eliminated from playoff contention in the East Conference as Cleveland SC and Erie Commodores FC won their respective games and could not be caught.

Cleveland SC (7-1-3, 24 points) climbed into first place in the conference behind a pair of wins. With Erie Commodores FC (7-1-2) with 23 points, it was impossible for the Lancers (5-3-3, 18) to catch either team.

Only two sides from the conference will reach the playoffs.

The Lancers defeated the Greater Binghamton FC Thunder in games on Saturday and Sunday, winning the former at home, 5-3, and then on the road, 2-1, respectively.

Rochester entered the weekend still alive for the postseason, but needed help with several draws from a number of teams. The team also needed to score many goals to raise its goal differential as well.

But none of that ever happened.

Erie blanked FC Buffalo at Robert E. Rich All-High Stadium, 2-0, Friday night.

Cleveland SC defeated Syracuse FC at Onondaga Community College in Syracuse, N.Y. Saturday night, 1-0.

The Lancers host the Fort Pitt Regiment in their season finale at Marina Auto Stadium Saturday at 5 p.m.
