Philadelphia Union midfielder Borek Dockal was voted the Major League Soccer player of the week by the North American Soccer Reporters, it was announced Tuesday.
Philadelphia defeated Vancouver Whitecaps FC 4-0 at Talen Energy Stadium Saturday with Dockal scoring two goals to lift the Union and snap Vancouver’s six-game unbeaten streak. In 15 games this season, Dockal has five goals and six assists, leading the team in both categories. The Union sits sixth in the Eastern Conference with 21 points (6-7-3 overall record).
The Czech Republic international opened the scoring with a goal with a left-footed shot from the right side of the box in the 24th minute. Ilsinho recovered a failed clearance, finding Dockal in the box, who then sent a curling shot through three defenders into the bottom left corner of goal, leaving goalkeeper Brian Rowe helpless (Watch Goal).
The midfielder showed his playmaking skills again in the 71st minute with his second goal of the match to give Philadelphia a 2-0 lead, completing his first MLS brace. Dockal found an Alejandro Bedoya pass at the top of the box then sidestepped past two defenders, firing a shot from the center of the box into the left side of the goal (Watch Goal).
