BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Rochester Lancers hurt their National Premier Soccer League playoff chances Friday night as they went down to a 3-0 road defeat at FC Buffalo at Robert E. Rich All-High Stadium.

The Lancers (11 points), who started the day in fifth place in the seven-team Midwest East Conference Division, fell to .500 at 3-3-2 while FC Buffalo (5-2-2, 17), which started the day in third place, extended its unbeaten streak to seven games. The top two teams qualify for the postseason.

Troy Brady, who also had an assist, Gary Boughton and Keane McIvor scored for the host side as goalkeeper Steve Casey recorded the shutout.

Six minutes after Casey denied Rochester’s Will Stone to keep the game scoreless, Brady gave FC Buffalo all the scoring it needed, recorded a goal in the 45th minute.

After taking a feed from McIvor, Brady laid off a pass to Boughton, who drilled his shot home for a two-goal advantage in the 75th minute. Boughton is the head women’s soccer coach at Erie Community College in the SUNY system.

McIvor got onto the scoresheet with his third goal of the season, putting home a Bauti Pedezert pass in the 88th minute.

The Lancers need to win at first-place Erie Commodores FC (6-0-1, 19, entering the night’s action) Sunday at 2 p.m. or face sure elimination for a postseason berth.

Rochester returns home next Saturday, June 30 to host FC Binghamton at Marina Auto Stadium.
