The Girls Under-18 State Open Cup final was an intriguing match between two teams more than 300 miles apart.

The HBC Impact, from Huntington, shut out the Plattsburgh Lakers, 4-0, to win the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association Girls Under-18 State Open Cup crown at Stringham Park in LaGrange, N.Y. June 3.

Isabella Glennon scored a three-goal hat trick and Julianna Kissane added a goal. Goalkeepers Morgan Novikoff and Amanda Sternberg shared the shutout.

The Impact play in the Long Island Junior Soccer League, the Lakers in the Capital District Youth Soccer League.

“Our last State Cup, I’m extremely proud of our girls and I don’t think anybody would have believed we could reach the level we are at,” HBC coach Billy Carroll said. “We are proud of ending it the right way and Plattsburgh gave us a very good game.”

Plattsburgh received the Rocco Amoroso Sportsmanship Award as determined by the game officials. Amoroso, a U.S. Soccer Life Member who died in 2016, started the LIJSL Sportsmanship Program in 1980. It spread to Eastern New York, nationally and then to China and Ireland.
