Leah Sparacio scored in the last minute goal to lift the Farmingdale Stars United to a 2-1 victory over the Stony Brook Crew in the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association State Open Cup Girls Under-16 championship game.

Jessica Ford netted Farmingdale’s other goal as Farmingdale won the Peter Masotto Cup in the confrontation between Long Island Junior Soccer League teams at Stringham Park in LaGrange, N.Y. June 3.

“Both teams are so closely matched but our girls had the endurance to win the state championship,” Farmingdale coach Steve Ballas said.

The Cup is named after long-time Long Island resident Masotto, who is a Region I Hall of Famer and U.S. Soccer Life Member who was as president of the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association from 1984 to 2006 and coached the Massapequa Falcons girls team to the 1986 Girls Under-19 national championship.

Farmingdale will represent Eastern New York at the Region I tournament in Spotsylvania, Va. June 29-July 3.
