ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Rochester Lady Lancers moved back into the East Conference lead with a 2-1 victory over New Jersey Copa FC in United Women’s Soccer action at Marina Auto Stadium Sunday.

The Lady Lancers (4-1-2, 14 points) snapped a tie with the New England Mutiny (3-1-2, 11), which recorded a 2-1 win over Inferno Rush Saturday.

Copa FC fell to 2-2-1.

Rochester struck twice in the final minutes of the opening half to grab a 2-0 advantage.

Jada Sargeant headed home a Taylor Wingerden cross at the far post for the first goal of the match in the 41st minute.

Brooke Barbuto doubled the hosts’ lead in stoppage time after the Lady Lancers intercepted a pass before the former Stony Brook University standout beat her defender 1 v 1.

The visitors pulled a goal back in the 90th minute as Tori Baliatico drilled a hard shot from distance past goalkeeper Caitie Broderick to slice the lead in half.

The Lady Lancers will get a week off before hosting the Western New York Flash Saturday, June 30 at 2 p.m.
