SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. — The Rochester Lancers pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the National Premier Soccer League season, registering a 2-0 victory over the previously unbeaten Fort Pitt Regiment Tuesday night.
Facing a must-win situation if they wanted to remain in the playoff hunt, Rochester tallied twice in the second half to snap a scoreless tie against Fort Pitt Regiment (4-1-0, 12 points), which had allowed only two goals entering the game.
The Lancers improved to 2-2-1 and seven points in the East Conference Division.
Rafael Godoi lifted Rochester into a 1-0 lead around the 70th minute before Will Stone added an insurance goal with only minutes remaining in the match.
Rochester returns home to host Cleveland SC (3-1-1, 10) at Marina Auto Stadium Friday at 7 p.m.
The Lancers dropped their season opener to Cleveland SC, 2-0, in University Heights, Ohio May 19.
