FC Select Green defeated Stony Brook Red Star in the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association Boys Under-13 State Open Cup final, 2-1, at Stringham Park in LaGrange, N.Y. June 2.

D.J. Parouse scored the first goal for FC Select Green and Michael Haro had the game-winner on a left-footed shot.

“The game was pretty competitive,” FC Select Green coach Andre Duncan said. “We had a little bit extra push and more energy.”

FC Select Green. a Cosmopolitan Junior Soccer League team from Brooklyn, also erned the Rocco Amoroso Sportsmanship Award, as determined by the game officials. Amoroso, a U.S. Soccer Life Member who died in 2016, started the Sportsmanship Program of the Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL) in 1980 and it spread to Eastern New York, nationally and then to China and Ireland.

FC Select Green will compete at the Regional I tournament in Spotsylvania, Va. from June 29-July 3.
