Minneapolis City SC forward Whitney Browne has been selected as the 10th Natonal Premier Soccer League player of the week this season.
Browne recorded a hat-trick in a 5-0 win over Dakota Fusion FC May 19.
Browne joined Minneapolis City for their 2017 U.S. Open Cup qualifiers and announced himself in style with a brace that saw them past Oakland County FC and into the U.S. Open Cup First Round. Since then, Browne has been a regular on the score sheet for Minneapolis City.
“I am honored to be named the NPSL national player of the week,” Browne said. “Although an individual award I would like to say thanks to my teammates for putting me in the position to have a legendary game. One of the best of my career.”
Before he joined Minneapolis City, Browne played for Minnesota United Reserves and, as a student, was a standout at the University of Dayton. He was Class AA Minnesota Mr. Soccer and the Star Tribune Minnesota High School Player of the Year with Osseo High School.
“Whitney’s work rate has helped him find a new scoring component to his game which keeps defenders off balance and makes him difficult to defend for 90 minutes,” Minneapolis City SC assistant coach Matt vanBenschoten said.
The winner of this national honor is determined by a vote of media members from across the country. It is awarded every week during the regular season.
