The Istria Blue Angels have won the Boys Under-13 Eastern New York Premier League title this spring.
The Cosmopolitan Soccer League team this feat by scoring 14 goals and allowing en route to a 4-1-1 record.
Istria, from Queens, also were champions last fall, in the CJSL Boys U-13 A Division.
“As a club, we were much more interested in player development than results as the kids were growing up. Now that they are a little older, they have really bought into the team concept,” Istria coach Ivo Mohorovic said. “They are extremely dedicated and over the last few years have really developed both as individual players and as a team. We were able to possess the ball and play out of the back during all of our games, which led to several scoring chances and ultimately to the results we wanted.”
The ENYPL is the oldest continuous Premier League in the United States and is playing in its 18th year in 2018. Under the direction of ENYPL chairperson Andreas Touros, teams from eight member leagues from all over the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association formed the ENYPL for this spring season.
