UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio — The Rochester Lancers did not get off on the right foot in their National Premier Soccer League season opener, dropping a 2-0 decision to Cleveland SC at Don Shula Stadium Saturday night.

Antonio José Manfut and Declan McGivern scored for the hosts, who played in their NPSL inagural match.

McGiven lifted Cleveland to a 1-0 halftime advantage before Manfut added an insurance score in the second half.

The Lancers return home to host Erie Commodores FC in their home opener at Marina Auto Stadium Sunday, May 27 at 5 p.m.

That will be the second game of a doubleheader at the downtown stadium, following the Lady Lancers’ home opener against the Connecticut Fusion at 2 p.m.

The Lady Lancers recorded its first road point in its two-year history, tying the New England Mutiny in their United Women’s Soccer season opener, 2-2, on a 90th-minute goal Saturday night.
