BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Rasmus Hansen scored twice in the second half, including the game-winner in the 85th minute to lift the Brooklyn Italians to a 3-2 win over Cosmos B in a Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup play-in match at LIU Brooklyn Sunday night.

Hansen. a LIU players, took a pass from Collyns Laokandi and motored in on the right side before cutting in and beating goalkeeper Macklin Robinson to snap a 2-2 deadlock.

The Italians will play Lansdowne Bhoys of the Cosmopolitan Soccer League in a first-round match Wednesday night.

These two teams won’t have to wait too long to tussle against as they will meet in a National Premier Soccer League match at Hofstra Soccer Stadium in Hempstead, N.Y. May 15.

With an enthusiastic crowd of 300 spectators on hand, the game definitely had an authenthic, back-in-the-day soccer game feel to it. The Five Points and La Banda del Cosmos backed the visiting side with chants and music.

The game clock counted down the minutes in the first half before it counted up in the second half. For the opening 20 minutes of the match, a drone hovered over the field.

Cosmos B enjoyed slightly better possession in the first half, but the Italians countered with a speedy frontline.

The Italians drew first blood in the 32nd minute when Joey Barone, the son of Cosmos vice president Joe Barone and another LIU player, raced down the right flank and beat two defenders and goalkeeper Macklin Robinson as a Cosmos defender lunged in vain for the ball that went into the net.

Only five minutes later, Cosmos B equalized. Bledi Bardic latched onto a Chris Wingert feed and raced in on goal. Brooklyn goalkeeper Mike Bernardi came out of the net and the forward had an open net to shoot at while defender Faouzi Taieb dove for the ball.

Rasmus Hansen found himself on a breakaway in the 58th minute, converting to lift Brooklyn into a 2-1 advantage.

A little more than a minute and a half later in the 59th minute, Cosmos B equalized at 2-2 off a goal by Wojciech Wojcik.
