PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Perhaps the fourth time will be the charm for Sky Blue FC (0-2-1, 1 point), which will try for its first win of the National Women’s Soccer League season Saturday night.
The Jersey side will host the Houston Dash (0-3-2, 2) at Yurcak Field in Piscataway, N.J. at 7 p.m. ET.
“For us, it has been tough to find consistency since we have only played three games. Other teams have gotten a little bit more of an opportunity to develop their chemistry,” Sky Blue FC head coach Denise Reddy said. “Over the past two weeks, we have been looking to get into our best rhythm, especially in the final third. We have a really good base and a really good idea of how we want to play, and our goal is to execute it for longer periods of time against Houston.”
Sky Blue FC last played April 21 when it traveled to the Chicago Red Stars at Toyota Park. The team fell behind in the opening minute after Sofia Huerta gave the Red Stars a 1-0 advantage. Sky Blue FC blanked Chicago the rest of the way, and a Katie Johnson to Savannah McCaskill connection in the 78th minute proved to be the equalizing score of a 1-1 tie.
Houston enters the game amid an 11-game winless run that dates back to the 2017 season. The Dash met the North Carolina Courage as the NWSL on Lifetime Game of the Week last Saturday, falling 2-0 to the top-ranked Courage. Crystal Dunn and Jessica McDonald were responsible for the two North Carolina goals.
Sky Blue FC leads the all-time series with a 6-1-3 record. Houston won the first meeting, 3-0, but Sky Blue FC has gone 6-0-3 since then.
