CARY, N.C. — Crystal Dunn scored in the 80th minute to lift the North Carolina Courage to a 2-2 draw with Utah Royals FC in National Women’s Soccer League action at Sahlen’s Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park Saturday.
After a poor clearance by Utah goalkeeper Abby Smith, the Rockville Centre, N.Y. native tracked down the ball and fired into an empty net to knot the match up at 2-2 for her second goal of the season.
During an eight-day span, the Courage collected seven points from three games.
“I give the players a lot of credit,” Courage head coach Paul Riley said. “They showed a bit of character coming back. You know, [Royals FC] picked us up on two diagonal balls, really. Other than that, we dominated the game.”
Merritt Mathias’ unassisted goal lifted North Carolina to a sixth-minute lead, but Utah came back behind unassisted scores by Katie Stengel (52nd minute) and Brittany Ratcliffe (66th minute) before Dunn’s equalizer.
