CHICAGO – North Carolina Courage midfielder McCall Zerboni was voted the National Women’s Soccer League player of the week by the NWSL Media Association.

Zerboni, 31, recorded her first brace as a member of the Courage to lead the team to a 4-2 victory over the Washington Spirit at the Maryland SoccerPlex. It was the team’s third consecutive win to start the season.

“This league is so talented and pulls so much quality, so for me to be voted NWSL player of the week is a huge honor,” Zerboni said. “I’m just glad that I could put in a good shift for the team. I’m really happy with the way the Courage has started the season and hopefully, we just keep improving and have some star studded performances as we go.”

The Camarillo, Calif. native scored the go-ahead goal off a free kick from the top of the 18-yard box that curled inside the left post to give North Carolina a 2-1 halftime advantage.

The UCLA product struck again for the game-winning goal in the 48th minute, easily finishing an assist from Kristen Hamilton inside the Washington penalty area and to redirect the ball into the open goal to give the Courage a 3-1 lead.

It is the first time Zerboni has been honored as the player of the week and the second time a North Carolina Courage player has won the award.

The Courage will return to action against the Seattle Reign FC on Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET at Sahlen’s Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C.

The NWSL player of the week is selected each week of the regular season by the NWSL Media Association, a collection of writers that cover the league on a consistent basis.
