NEW YORK – Major League Soccer announced Friday a three-year deal with Twitter that will provide the league’s fans with a broad slate of weekly programming including live matches, highlights and features.

MLS will provide Twitter with a package of live, on-demand content each week allowing MLS fans to follow their favorite teams and players via MLS’ Twitter handles, @MLS and @FutbolMLS. Twitter and MLS also will collaborate on innovative executions to support MLS Big Events during the season.

Beginning this weekend, live matches will be available in English in the U.S. on Twitter via @UnivisionSports and @MLS.

The first MLS match to be streamed on Twitter will feature Real Salt Lake hosting expansion side Los Angeles Football Club Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET.

“MLS constantly strives to connect with fans in new and innovative ways,” SVP Media of MLS Chris Schlosser said. “Our fans are the youngest and most socially engaged in pro sports, which is why we are excited to partner with Twitter to feature live matches on their platform.”

Added Twitter VP and global head of content partnerships Kay Madati: “We are excited to collaborate with Major League Soccer to bring live soccer matches and video highlights to Twitter. Passionate MLS fans will now have live match day action alongside real-time commentary from experts and fellow fans all in one place on Twitter.”
